About the Project

The Low Water Crossings website is a research project from the Department of Geography at Texas State University to examine collaborative mapping, data collection, and Volunteered Geographic Information. All of the contributed information comes from volunteers.

Goals

The goals of the project are:

  • to collect data about low water crossings in central Texas, which we hope to use to alert citizens of these risks and dangers;
  • to examine how contributors use collaborative mapping projects and examine issues such as locational and thematic accuracy, motivations, and social aspects of collaborative projects;
  • to examine how collaborative mapping can be used as an instructional technique in the classroom.
